How do I sign my New Will

You MUST sign your new Will in the presence of an adult witness who IS NOT a beneficiary in your new Will, married to a beneficiary in your new Will or who otherwise has a beneficial interest in your new Will. The adult witness does not need to read any part of your new Will, they are simply witnessing your signature. Please follow the three Stages for signing as detailed below VERY CAREFULLY:-

Stage One

In the presence of your chosen adult witness please sign, using your usual signature, as follows:-

  • At the foot of each page AND
  • At the end of your Will. You do not need to sign at the foot of the final page of your new Will The places you must sign are clearly indicated in your new Will.
Stage Two

Your adult witness must then:-

  • Sign your new Will in the place indicated at the last page only; AND
  • Thereafter PRINT his/her name, address and occupation in the places provided at the last page.
Stage Three

You must then PRINT the date and place you signed your new Will at the place indicated at the last page using letters only, for example; “Glasgow” on “Twenty-sixth March Two Thousand and Six” If you have correctly followed the three stages mentioned above your Will is now a effective legal document.

Please note that if you cannot read or write for any reason whatsoever, you must see a Solicitor
